IMG_0180Lee A Tolbert Community Academy hosted an in-house debate tournament for over 40 students and just as many parents last Thursday (September 30). Head coach Bill Lindsey organized two sessions of student congress and one policy debate round. The in-house event allowed students to practice for tournament competition by matching wits against fellow teammates.

The most impressive takeaway from the tournament was the incredible level of parental involvement. Nearly every one of the 40 plus students in attendance were accompanied by family members who were able to observe the practice debates. It bodes well for the team’s future as parent involvement in debate can make a huge difference. Supportive parents, like those at Lee A Tolbert, listen to their students speeches at home and make sure they have everything needed to attend tournaments and practice.

DKC was able to recruit four college debaters to help judge the event and DKC Director, Gabe Cook, expressed his admiration to all the parents for supporting their children in debate. It looks like Lee A Tolbert is in for big year.
